Kightly makes return in friendly

Wolves winger Michael Kightly says he hopes to have recovered from injury by the start of the new season.

The 23-year-old broke a metatarsal in March and missed the run-in to the club's Championship title win.

He has undergone rehabilitation work, and played a part in Wednesday's 2-1 defeat at Port Vale.

Kightly told BBC WM: "The fact that I've got a screw in my fifth metatarsal makes it even stronger and I didn't feel it at all."

Kightly signed for the club from Conference side Grays Athletic in November 2006, and has been a rising star at Molineux since.

He played 38 Championship matches last season, scoring eight times before picking up his injury.

He said: "We've just been slowly progressing training. I've come and played 30 minutes tonight and I'm really happy."

Wolves have brought in six new players this summer as they prepare for life in the top flight.

Kightly added: "We've worked really hard pre-season so far, and we'll be raring to go in three weeks' time. Hopefully we'll be as sharp as we can be and we'll be ready to take on the Premier League."
