Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo could miss the start of the season after breaking his metatarsal in his club's first friendly on their tour of Australia.

The 30-year-old Scotland international was injured in a tackle with Jacob Burns after 18 minutes of the match.

Iwelumo has just returned from a knee ligament injury, which ruled him out of the final five matches of Wolves' Championship title-winning season.

Wolves won the match 1-0, with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake scoring the only goal.

All six of Mick McCarthy's summer signings - Nenad Milijas, Marcus Hahnemann, Kevin Doyle, Andrew Surman, Greg Halford and Ronald Zubar - played a part in the match.

Iwelumo, a £400,000 signing from Charlton in the summer of 2008, scored 16 goals in his first season at Molineux - albeit 15 of those came by the end of November, as Wolves secured their return to the Premier League.

Wolves open the new season with a home game against West Ham on 15 August.

Scotland travel to Norway three days earlier for a vital World Cup qualifier.
