Saddlers move for striker Jones

Walsall have clinched the signing of striker Steve Jones on a free transfer from Premier League side Burnley.

The 32-year-old becomes the second new addition to Chris Hutchings' squad this summer, following the arrival of Northampton defender Mark Hughes.

Hutchings told the club's website: "He is a player who will excite people.

"We had to fight off plenty of competition from elsewhere to secure his services and he is a great acquisition for this football club."

He added: "He can create and score goals and his experience will benefit those around him.

"He is comfortable on the left, right and through the middle, so he will increase our options."

Jones, a former Northern Ireland international, started his career with Crewe and went on to have spells with Huddersfield and Bradford, where he ended last season on loan.
