McCarthy readily admitted Wolves performance was "awful"
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy said his side were lucky to come away with a 3-2 win at Derby on Monday.
The Championship leaders secured all three points with an 87th minute Andy Keogh header.
McCarthy was delighted with the victory even though he conceded it was a "horrible" performance from his team.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "It shows that a team on a winning streak can get a bit of luck and maybe earn a bit of luck. That was horrible, but we won."
McCarthy has also backed under-fire striker Andy Keogh after his two goals brought Wolves back into the game at 2-2 and then sealed the victory.
He told the club's website: "Maybe the fans expect more from Andy and we do as well.
"They get frustrated because they don't think he's playing well but he always works hard and everybody at the club loves him.
"He thoroughly deserved his goals and everyone was delighted for him."
