McCarthy rages at Wolves boo boys

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy
Mick McCarthy says booing players at Molineux does not help anyone

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy says any fans who want to boo striker Andy Keogh should stay away from Molineux.

McCarthy was incensed at the reaction Keogh got from parts of the home crowd during Saturday's win over Coventry.

"Anyone who's booed him, get off his back because they are driving me mad," McCarthy told BBC WM.

"If they want to boo him, don't come. It's a disgrace. He didn't have his best game but leave him alone and let him play his football."

McCarthy points out that the criticism coming down from the stands will not help the team, and in particular Keogh, who shrugged off the verbal abuse to set up Wolves' equaliser for Michael Kightly.

"It's not going to help him," said McCarthy. "Does he want to perform for us? Of course he does.

"It'll drive him insane that. We can all see he's having a tough time but, bloody hell, encourage him."

Keogh, 22, has hit 18 goals in his 80 games for Wolves - but he has become renowned in nearly two years at Molineux more for his hard work and unselfish, skilful support play than his poaching ability.

The seven-times capped Republic of Ireland front man has lost his place as a first-choice pick up front since the summer arrival of Chris Iwelumo. But he still started Saturday's game in a left-side midfield role, preferred to loan signing Carlos Edwards.
