West Brom's Marcus Haber knows patience will be key

Canadian striker Marcus Haber knows he may need to bide his time at West Brom before entering Roberto Di Matteo's first-team plans.

The 21-year old joined the Baggies from Vancouver Whitecaps last week after impressing on trial back in November.

"The club were pretty straightforward with me from day one," Haber told the club's official website.

"They said that if I was given the opportunity, they would work to improve me as a young player."

The striker has represented his country at under-17, under-20 and under-23 levels, playing a part in Canada's qualifying programme for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Every young player should have patience because you never know when your time is going to come.

He scored eight times for the Whitecaps in his first full season in the United Soccer League, but the Canadian is under no illusions about how big a step-up he is taking in the Championship.

"I expect it to be a lot faster and it will probably be more physical so it's going to take some time to adjust," Haber said.

"But I've played internationally against some big, strong players before, so hopefully it won't take too long.

"Every young player should have patience because you don't know when your time is going to come - it's a good opportunity for me and I'm just going to take it in my stride."

Haber's arrival increases head coach Di Matteo's options up front, with Ishmael Miller also available again after his long-term injury problems.
