Mowbray has found the transfer market frustrating this summer
West Brom boss Tony Mowbray is refuting suggestions that the club have been over-cautious in the transfer market.
The Premier League newcomers have added Scott Carson, Gianni Zuiverloon, Marek Cech and Abdoulaye Meite to their squad so far, alongside several youngsters.
"I don't think anybody's being tight with the money, we're trying to spend it," Mowbray told BBC WM.
"Maybe the gulf between the Championship and the Premier League is so huge you have to take a big gulp."
Mowbray has been frustrated in his pursuit of a number of summer targets, and has expressed his concern at the number of non-football people involved in negotiations.
"You've got to be careful that you don't put your club at risk, and that's the balance we're trying to get at the moment," he said.
One area that the Baggies boss would like to improve is his forward line, after spending pre-season experimenting with different formations including 4-5-1 and 4-4-2.
"We like to play a balance of two really, rather than two out-and-out strikers.
"We'd like to have a striker whose natural game is to drop in and play but also be pressing the ball high up the pitch - but at this moment we don't have that type of player."
