Darren Byfield replaced Mark Hughes as Walsall captain in the summer
Walsall are hopeful that Darren Byfield will play some part for the reserves against Lincoln on Tuesday after a month out of action with a knee injury.
The 34-year-old striker has not played for the Saddlers since the 2-1 defeat at home to Swindon on 18 September.
"We've got a reserve game on Tuesday and he may be involved in that, but we'll just have to wait and see," manager Chris Hutchings told BBC WM.
"He had an injection on Wednesday and had to rest completely for 48 hours."
Walsall could also welcome midfielder Richard Taundry back into the squad for the League One fixture against bottom side Tranmere on Saturday.
Taundry injured his knee in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Chesterfield on 31 August.
Hutchings continued: "Richard's another one that if all of his rehab has gone OK over the weekend, he may get a bit of a run-out in the reserves and that will be another plus for us."
