Walsall manager Chris Hutchings has praised new loan signing Clayton McDonald after their Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at home by Bury.
The defender, 20, son of ex-Saddlers striker Rod, arrived on Tuesday from Manchester City on a month-long loan and went straight into the squad.
Hutchings told BBC WM: "He's come down and wants to play, I think that's very encouraging from a young lad.
"It's a great opportunity for him to learn his trade at this level."
Despite losing to their lower league opponents in a penalty shoot-out, Hutchings had nothing but praise for the young centre-half.

"I was pleased with his contribution. He was good in the air, he made some timely tackles but he was good on the ball as well.
"We look forward to seeing him for the rest of the month."
McDonald is expected to partner Manny Smith at the back again when the Saddlers travel to Norwich City on Saturday.
