Anthony Gerrard began at Everton before joining Walsall in 2005
Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen admits he is unsure whether Anthony Gerrard will stay at the club beyond January.
Transfer-listed Gerrard, 22, a cousin of Liverpool skipper Steve, has made no secret of his desire to play at a higher level.
But Mullen told BBC WM the player is not unhappy: "Me and Anthony get on very well. He's a determined young man and wants to play at the highest level.
"Everyone has a right to do that. What happens, we'll have to wait and see."
Gerrard has been one of the Saddlers' most consistent performers so far this season and Mullen is pleased with how the centre-back has knuckled down despite asking for a transfer.
"As long as Anthony's playing and performing well, I'm happy, he's happy and I'm sure the supporters are happy."
Although constantly looking for potential new signings, Mullen has also admitted that he is quite happy to plug the gap left by Ishmel Demontagnac with members of his current squad.
"I'm aware that losing Ishmel leaves us a body short," he said. "But we have Sofiane Zaaboub, Marco Reich and also Alex Nicholls and Chris Palmer who can play in that wide left position so there's not a problem."
