Hill thrilled with Wolves debut

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Matt Hill is glad to have finally made his debut for the club, more than three months after arriving from Preston.

Hill played a full part in the 3-0 win over Derby on Tuesday after an injury-hit start to his Molineux career.

"In my second week I had a knee injury so I was out for five weeks," the 27-year-old told BBC WM.

"I've come in and done well and now it's up to the gaffer. We've got a very big squad of players who want to play."

Hill originally signed for Wolves to cover for the long-term absence of first-choice left-back George Elokobi.

But his own misfortune meant Stephen Ward stepped in to the position and has adapted well from a more attacking role.

"Wardy's been doing excellently in the team and you have to wait your chance," said Hill.

"It was good, I was pleased, a bit nervous as you can imagine but I thoroughly enjoyed it."

The former Preston defender steps into a Wolves team that currently sits top of the Championship having picked up 50 points from their first 22 games.

But Hill remains cautious about his side's chances of being promoted to the Premier League.

"We're in a good position, but we're only at the halfway stage so anything can happen," said Hill.

"We've just got to keep plugging away and hopefully keep picking up points."
