Demontagnac has struggled to break into the Walsall first team regularly
Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen says Ishmel Demontagnac has to show more consistent form if he wants to be a regular in the first team at the Banks's Stadium.
Demontagnac, 20, has played for England at Under-19 and 20 level but has spent the majority of his Saddlers' career so far on the bench.
"Ishmel can win a game at any stage. It's how consistent he wants to be," Mullen told BBC WM.
"If he's consistent he'll be in the team but he has to earn the right."
Demontagnac, who signed on for Walsall in 2005, agreed a new two-year deal in 2007.
Last season he made 35 appearances but 22 of those were as a substitute and Mullen says the only way that will change is if Demontagnac proves his all-round worth.
"He's got to be consistent for the team and this football club," added Mullen. "But, with the ability that he's got, he will get in."
