Tranmere defender Ash Taylor is set to miss up to four months of the new season after having knee surgery.

The 19-year-old damaged cartilage in training and will now undergo intensive rehabilitation with the clubs' physio Steve Walker.

"It's a blow for Ash to miss the first few months after he did so well last season," Rovers boss Les Parry told the club website.

"But injuries happen in football and he'll come back a stronger player."
