Taylor extends Tranmere contract

Tranmere Rovers

Tranmere defender Ash Taylor has signed a one-year extension to keep him at the club until June 2011.

The 19-year-old progressed through the youth ranks at Rovers before making his first team debut against Scunthorpe on the final day of last season.

"Ash is a promising young defender," said Tranmere manager John Barnes.

"He is a good example of the hard work being done by the club with its centre of excellence and youth system and I'm pleased he has extended his contract."

Barnes added: "He played well throughout pre-season and deserved to make his full debut on Saturday at Yeovil."

"I'm happy to have signed a new contract at Tranmere," said Taylor, who has also been capped by Wales at under-19 level.

"I've really enjoyed being part of the first team squad this summer and hope I can be involved regularly this season."

Rovers will hope to get their first win of the season when they entertain Grimsby in the first round of the Carling Cup at Prenton Park on Tuesday, kick off at 1945 BST.
