Broomes signs Tranmere contract

Broomes will stay at Prenton Park until June 2010

Defender Marlon Broomes has signed a one-year contract with Tranmere Rovers.

The 31-year-old arrived at Prenton Park on non-contract terms in August and impressed in the 4-0 Carling Cup victory over Grimsby Town.

"I knew if the manager offered me something, I was always going to take it," Broomes told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"So I've signed here now and hopefully we can now start picking some points up and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season."

Broomes began his career with Blackburn Rovers, where he made 39 appearances and won two England Under-21 caps.

To be honest it's been a breath of fresh air

He moved on to Sheffield Wednesday in 2001 and enjoyed spells with Preston North End and Stoke City before joining Blackpool last season.

The experienced centre-half says he feels right at home at Prenton Park with the style of play manager John Barnes wants his team to adopt.

"To be honest it's been a breath of fresh air," Broomes continued.

"The training and the way the gaffer wants to play - he wants us to get the ball down and play. That's the type of player I am.

"Probably four of the last five teams we've played in the opening games of the season are going to be there or thereabouts [at the top]. In that respect they are going to beat a lot of teams in this division.

"We're looking to bounce back now and I'm looking forward to the game on Saturday."
