Distin has played for Newcastle, Manchester City and Portsmouth
Everton defender Leighton Baines says new signing Sylvain Distin has adapted quickly to life at Goodison Park.
"When you're playing with someone like Sylvain, you know there isn't going to be any problems with him settling in," Baines told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"He slotted in and played very well. It's just a matter of him getting to know us, and us getting to know him."
Distin, 31, joined on Friday from Portsmouth, making his debut in the following day's 2-1 win against Wigan.
Left-back Baines' injury-time penalty claimed all three points against his old club, to stop the rot after Everton' losing start to the season.
And, as far as the home fans were concerned, it was a welcome improvement on the first-day 6-1 tonking that the Goodison Park regulars witnessed against Arsenal.
But Baines points out that a record of one win and two defeats from the first three games is no different to last season, when Everton recovered well to finish an impressive fifth.
"We didn't start too well last season," said Baines, "so there was no real panic.
"We had a really good season last year.
"We feel we are capable of doing the same again this year and now we are looking to kick on."
Everton signed two new defenders over the Bank Holiday weekend, following up Distin's arrival with the £6m capture of Johnny Heitinga from Atletico Madrid.
Although Everton boss David Moyes still has linchpin Phil Jagielka sidelined with his long-standing knee injury, he has now bought in two players for less than half the £22m banked from the sale of Joleon Lescott to Manchester City.
