Wilkin will be missing when St Helens clash with Leeds on Friday |
St Helens forward Jon Wilkin could miss the inaugural Four Nations series after being sidelined with a knee injury. The 25-year-old broke down in training on Wednesday and will now miss St Helens' clash with Leeds on Friday. Wilkin was set to play a big part in England coach Tony Smith's plans for the event that starts in October. "He couldn't get through training. He's got some floating cartilage in there and at some stage he'll need a clear-out," said Saints coach Mick Potter. "We're trying to stave it off to the end of the season but I wouldn't think it would rule him out for the complete (Four Nations) tournament." The Four Nations is a new competition, with France joining heavyweights England, New Zealand and Australia. The first match will see England clash with France at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium on 23 October. The last time the two sides met back in June, England ran out 66-12 winners. The final will take place at Elland Road on 14 November.
