Tranmere Rovers striker Ian Moore has confirmed he will have a new name on the back of his shirt next season.

The 32-year-old, who is in his second spell at the Merseyside club, will wear the name Thomas-Moore.

The striker, who can also play on the wing, married his long-time partner, Victoria, during the summer.

He told BBC Radio Merseyside: "It's the sensible thing to do. We've got three kids and they all have the Thomas-Moore name, so it wasn't a big decision."

Thomas-Moore, the son of former manager Ronnie Moore, scored 11 goals in all competitions last season.

He added: "I spoke to my dad and mum and they gave me the OK, so it was pretty straightforward after that.

"I know it could cause a problem with the statisticians having to change all the details with the games I've played, but I think that's the only problem."

Thomas-Moore, who has also played for Bradford, Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Stockport, Burnley, Leeds and Hartlepool, continued: "I know some fans might have to pay a bit more to have my name on the back of their shirt next season.

"I think it was £3 to get Moore printed on the back of your shirt. Now I've added another £3 to the cost I won't be surprised if I don't see many people with Thomas-Moore shirts next season."

Thomas-Moore, who was born locally in Birkenhead, did have one or two concerns about the name fitting on the back of his shirt, but revealed: "I've spoken to our kit man and he assures me the name will fit. We had Jennison Myrie-Williams here last year, so it shouldn't be a problem."

The striker, who was twice bought for £1m during his career by Nottingham Forest and Burnley, added: "I'm hoping that being a Thomas-Moore will make me twice the player. I've started well in pre-season, so hopefully it's a good omen for me."
