Buckle was highly critical of the lack of atmosphere against Grays
Torquay United boss Paul Buckle says his side need the fans to get behind them as they chase promotion from the Blue Square Premier.
Buckle felt there was a lack of support during Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Grays Athletic at Plainmoor.
"It felt silent, it felt dead. It's got to be better, we've got to try and raise the roof at home," he told BBC Radio Devon.
The Gulls remain third, 11 points off the top but six points clear of sixth.
"It's not going to be easy getting out of this division; it's going to be a mission. And whether we're playing teams down the bottom or the top, we need to get right behind this team," said Buckle.
"We've taken 16 points from 18 and we're lying third in the league and having a real go this season. We need to get realistic about things, the atmosphere wasn't good enough tonight. Simple as that."
However, Buckle did praise the attitude of defender Chris Todd who recently returned from a loan spell at Salisbury.
"Todd's a true winner, a true leader. That's why we've bought him back, and we're going to need those sort of performances from him between now and the end of the season," he said.
