Smith began his playing career as a Millwall trainee

Swindon have handed a two-year contract extension to keeper Phil Smith.

The 30-year-old Londoner joined the club in 2007 from Crawley Town, but has found first team appearances scant recently with David Lucas preferred.

He said: "I had to think about it because I haven't played a lot, but I won't have a better chance of playing in the Championship than here."

The new deal will keep Smith at the County Ground until the end of the 2011/2012 season.
