Swindon manager Danny Wilson has made Hibernian winger Alan O'Brien his third signing of the summer.

The 24-year-old has just been released by Hibs after two years and nearly 50 games in the Scottish Premier League.

O'Brien, who has won five caps for the Republic of Ireland, said Wilson was crucial in his moving to join Town.

"It was an easy decision once I'd spoken to the gaffer. I know he can help me get where I want to get to," O'Brien told BBC Points West.

"He was saying they want to play with the ball on the ground, play football, which every footballer wants to do.

"That was a massive part, and when I came here I liked everything about the place. I'm really looking forward to it."

O'Brien, who started his career at Newcastle, follows David Lucas and Gordon Greer in moving to the County Ground as Wilson builds a squad for the 2009-10 League One season.

And Wilson is adamant that the "exciting" O'Brien will soon become a favourite with the fans.

He told BBC Wiltshire: "What he will bring to us is that pace that every team needs and he'll cause problems in this division.

"He's still a young boy, not as many games under his belt as he should have at his age. We can give him an opportunity.

"He's got a great attitude, for a winger his defensive work is tremendous as well so he's got a lot attributes."
