Crewe have missed out on signing the Hibernian winger Alan O'Brien on loan until the end of the season. Alex were hoping to confirm the arrival of the 22-year-old, but the former Newcastle player opted to remain with the Scottish Premier League outfit.
Crewe coach Steve Holland told BBC Radio Stoke: "I spent five hours setting it up before his agent told me that Hibs decided to keep him."
Crewe will now focus on signing a striker before the transfer deadline.
O'Brien has made just five starts, and 13 appearances as a substitute, since joining Hibs in the summer.
