More than half of Sturrock's Swindon appearances were as a substitute
Blair Sturrock says he knew he had no future at Swindon shortly after Danny Wilson arrived at the County Ground as their new manager in December 2008.
The Robins striker was one of 13 players released this week and started just one game under the new manager.
"If you're playing and training well then you think you are going to get a chance," Sturrock told BBC Wiltshire.
"If that does not happen then you know that you and the manager aren't on the same wavelength."
"That's just the way football is," Sturrock added.
Sturrock joined League One Swindon in November 2006 from Rochdale having begun his career at Dundee United.
The 27-year-old Scotsman had loan spells at both Bournemouth and Torquay this season and wants to recover from a knee injury before thinking about where he might play next term.
"I'm not going to start phoning people and stressing out, I want to get this injury sorted and then go from there," he added.
Peter Brezovan, Barry Corr, Jamie Vincent, Jack Smith, Michael Pook, Lilian Nalis , Chris Allen, Tom Evans, Jake Hyde, Ben Joyce, Sam Morris and Hamdi Razak were the other 12 players released.
