Swindon Town will be Danny Wilson's sixth managerial job
Swindon Town's new manager Danny Wilson has said he is excited by the potential at the County Ground.
Wilson, who saw his side lose at home to Brighton in his first game in charge on Sunday, told BBC Radio Swindon: "The potential here is obvious.
"The ambition is great from my point of view and the rest of the board's.
"When the chairman made the phone call to myself from then onwards I was very positive about the situation. I don't think it took long to make my mind up."
Wilson hopes to strengthen his squad in the transfer window, but added: "They've got some terrific players here, a very good squad of young players as well coming through so that in itself bodes well for the future."
Wilson has previously managed Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol City and Milton Keynes Dons and was recently sacked by fellow League One side Hartlepool United.
He takes over at Swindon with his new side just above the League One relegation zone after a run of poor form.
But Wilson believes he has what it takes to turn their fortunes around.
"It's just giving them confidence," he said. "The more confidence players have the more consistent they'll be.
"It's my job and the staff's job to give them that belief and give them that confidence from the management."
Wilson will keep Dave Byrne at the County Ground as his assistant manager.
Swindon are without a fixture until 10 January when Stockport County visit Wiltshire, giving Wilson plenty of time to work with his new players and dip into the transfer market.
