Interview: Swindon chairman Andrew Fitton
Swindon Town chairman Andrew Fitton says he will be happy if the club breaks even this season.
"It is difficult. People have to be realistic, football clubs do not make money at this level," Fitton told BBC Points West.
"Our objective is just to get stable, to break even would be good. We're on a sound financial footing and we've been debt free for a little while.
Local businessman Fitton's consortium took control of Town in January 2008.
Fitton says that manager Maurice Malpas has not requested a lot of money to be spent on transfer fees this summer.
"He hasn't asked for much. The objective was always to try and improve in individual areas [of the pitch].
"I think we've selectively done that and improved place after place," he said.
The Swindon chairman admits that it is now unlikely that the club will reach their target of selling 6000 season tickets for the new season.
"It's going to be a little bit of a struggle to get to the end but it's been a fantastic effort.
"In recognition of that we wanted to hold [a discounted offer] open for another 10 days until after the Tranmere game," he added.
