Swindon target new home for 2012

Andrew Fitton
Fitton wants Swindon to be playing in a new stadium in four years time

Swindon Town chairman Andrew Fitton is hoping to have the club in a new or redeveloped stadium by 2012.

Previous regimes at Swindon have seen a variety of plans fail as the club's existing home starts to show its age.

Fitton has now started to consider whether to build a completely new stadium or redevelop the County Ground.

"We'll do a lot of work on it during the season and by the end we'll have a good idea of what to do," Fitton told BBC Radio Swindon.

"It would be good to do it for the Olympic year in 2012 which seems like a long way off but it's not.

"If we were moving off this site then 2012 would not be a bad target. If we stay at the County Ground then of course we may be able to move slightly faster.

"The big decision first is 'do we stay or do we go?' and that decision has not been made yet."
