Gower joy at ending goal drought

Swansea City winger Mark Gower is celebrating after ending his scoring drought to help them beat Palamos 2-0 on their Spanish tour.

Gower, who had not scored since joining last summer, has swapped his "unlucky" number 11 shirt for 27 for this season.

"It's a nice feeling," said Gower who scored the Swans' second goal. "I wanted a change of luck so I thought I'd change my shirt number.

"I had to blame something for my bad luck in front of goal - and it worked."

Gower now hopes he can repeat the feat as the new Championship season beckons.

He added: "I have waited a long time for it and now hopefully I can get my share in the league and help Swansea finish in a better position than last season.

"It was an open goal. But I was still nervous - it's been that long. I know it's not the real thing, not in a league game, but it was a nice feeling and a confidence booster for me.''

Gower scored in the last minute, adding to Guillem Bauza's penalty on the stroke of half-time after Fede Bessone was brought down in the box.

Gower added: "Three of us broke the offside trap and I think Kerry [Morgan] and Jordi [Lopez] got in each others' way. In the end Jordi squared it to me and I rolled it in.

"I think Jordi knew how much it meant to me because I gave him a big kiss afterwards."

Swansea end their Spanish tour on Monday night with a triangular tournament against host club CE Sabadell and Gimnastic.
