Beattie aims to better goal tally

Stoke City striker James Beattie has set himself a target of scoring 15 Premier League goals next season.

The 31-year-old scored seven times in 16 starts for the Potters after his move from Sheffield United in January.

"15 goals plus is what any striker looks for and this year will be no different," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

"If Matty Etherington and Liam Lawrence can deliver the ball for me, I've said throughout my career that I back myself to score goals in games."

Beattie's rich vein of scoring form propelled the Potters from near the foot of the Premier League to a final finishing position of 12th.

He will be competing with Ricardo Fuller and record signing Dave Kitson for a place in attack when the season starts on 15 August, with a home game against newly-promoted Burnley.
