Shawcross may look to leave Stoke

Stoke City centre-half Ryan Shawcross has said he may consider his future at the Britannia Stadium if manager Tony Pulis decides to sign another defender.

The 20-year-old, who began his career at Manchester United, was on the bench for the win over Aston Villa but did play in the Carling Cup at Cheltenham.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "If the manager brings someone else in then maybe I'll have to look at my future.

"But at the minute I'm delighted to be a Stoke player, I'm happy to be here."

I was left out last year and bounced back and I'm sure I can do that again

Ryan Shawcross
Shawcross joined the Potters from United in January following a successful loan spell for a then club-record fee of 2m.

He was a regular for much of Stoke's promotion winning campaign but was left out of the side when Middlesbrough's Chris Riggott arrived on loan at the Britannia Stadium.

After starting in the opening day defeat at Bolton, Shawcross was relegated to the bench in favour of new signing Abdoulaye Faye for the win over Villa.

"That's the way football is," Shawcross added. "I was left out last year and bounced back and I'm sure I can do that again but it's always disappointing when you don't play."
