Cowdenbeath have confirmed that defender Laurie Ellis has signed for promoted Stirling Albion after rejecting a new contract. The 27-year-old was wanted for a second season by the Division Two outfit.
But manager Brian Welsh told his club website: "It is disappointing that Laurie will not be with us next season, but I fully understand his reasons.
"He is an an honest guy and has been offered the opportunity to move up a level. Money was not a factor."
Ellis joined Cowdenbeath from Fife neighbours Raith Rovers and was the fans' player of the year.
Stirling's website stated that manager Allan Moore would also be keen to sign David Bingham should the forward who impressed on loan negotiate a release from his contract with Gretna.
Defender Andy Graham has re-signed for the club that won promotion to Division One.
Moore is also said to be hoping to re-sign goalkeeper Myles Hogarth, defender Paul Hay and midfielder Stewart Devine.
Meanwhile, Welsh stressed that, despite the loss of Ellis, he was happy with the way his squad was shaping up for next season.
He is in negotiations to add to the three new signings already made.
Former Gretna midfielder Mick Galloway, defender Chris Anton, released by Ross County, and Edinburgh University striker Andy Howatt will arrive at Central Park this summer.
