Gow was with Hibernian during last season

Manager Danny Lennon remains hopeful St Mirren can sign free agent Alan Gow.

And, speaking after the Buddies' 1-0 win over Hibernian at St Mirren Park, Lennon hinted that a deal could be completed on Monday.

"I'll probably make contact with Alan Gow tonight or he'll make contact with myself," Lennon told BBC Scotland.

"Hopefully, one way or another, we'll be able to put it to bed. Hopefully, come Monday morning, he'll be at our Ralston training ground."

Former Falkirk, Rangers player Gow has previously attracted interest from Kilmarnock, having been released from his contract at Plymouth.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Hibernian and Easter Road manager John Hughes said he would be interested in re-signing the forward he worked with at Falkirk.

But Lennon remains keen to tie the player down to a contract in Paisley.

"A lot depends on what Gow does," said Lennon before his side's 1-0 win over Hibs.

"I'm not saying that we've put all our eggs into the one basket, a vast majority of it is. So I'm waiting on a decision from the boy and I hope to hear one this afternoon.

"If it's not a goer with that one then you could probably see another two or three coming in.

"I'm optimistic. I've had good vibes off the boy. He's been down south, he spoke to a few clubs up here, but we seem to still be in with a very good shout.

"I can only take the man's word on it so until I get a definite, I'm still optimistic and hoping that we can do something there."

Meanwhile, Lennon was pleased to record a first competitive victory as St Mirren manager as Craig Dargo's goal helped the Buddies bounced back from a midweek Co-operative Insurance Cup exit at the hands of Ross County.

"We came off a very difficult week and I got a massive response in the first half from them," added Lennon.

"I was disappointed, when we did pick the ball up, that we didn't make better use of it.

"But, in the second half, they responded fantastic to me.

"Wee Dargo was getting frustrated in there at half-time that he was getting very, very little support up to him, so it was great to see him take an opportunist's goal. He was just prowling about there.

"I'm delighted because it was another set play and we work on them very, very hard and it's testament to the players that they stick to that and they stick to the game plan and it's worked for us.
