Gow spent the second half of last season with Hibs
St Mirren manager Danny Lennon hopes to secure the signing of former Falkirk and Rangers forward Alan Gow.
"I've met Alan on a couple of occasions and I'm getting good, positive vibes," Lennon told BBC Radio Scotland.
"We have pushed the boat out as far as we can, so the decision now lies with the boy.
"I think we'd be good for one another at the moment. We are looking for that bit of quality and he needs to get his career back on track."
Gow, 27, is without a club, having been released a year early from his contract at Plymouth.
He spent time on loan at Hibernian last season, but injury limited the impact the left-sided player could make at Easter Road.
Alan Gow is one that I'd relish at my football club

Despite making just three starts in his five months at Hibs, the Edinburgh club's manager, John Hughes, said in July that he would like to sign him but did not follow up his interest.
Gow moved to Rangers three years ago, having impressed during two seasons with Falkirk, but he made just two appearances in cup games for the Ibrox side.
Loan spells followed at Blackpool and Norwich before Plymouth moved for the former Scotland B cap last summer.
If St Mirren can come to an agreement with Gow, that would bring an end to a busy recruitment period for Lennon, who moved to Paisley from Cowdenbeath at the end of last season.
"That would certainly be us," he revealed.
"I've got the lads in that can do that ugly side of the game for us, if you like, and I've just been out there looking for the icing on the cake.
"And Alan Gow, for me, certainly fits that bill. He's one that I'd relish at my football club."
