O'Donovan has had loan spells with Blackpool and Dundee United
Striker Roy O'Donovan says his one-month loan from Sunderland to Southend is the "perfect" move.
The 24-year-old frontman made his Shrimpers debut in their 3-2 win at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
The Irishman scored one of the goals and is now looking to strike up a profitable partnership with fellow forward, Lee Barnard.
"The move was perfect for me and perfect for Southend," O'Donovan told BBC Essex.
O'Donovan went straight into the starting XI on Saturday and netted Southend's second goal from close range.
He said: "I'd take that every week from two yards out. That's what a striker is all about and hopefully, in the next few weeks, I'll get the luck as well."
O'Donovan also praised his strike partner, Barnard.
"He was great to play with, full of running. It's great when you hit it off so quickly. Hopefully that bodes well for the next few games," he said.
The loanee, who has played 19 times for Sunderland without scoring, has been delighted with his reception at Roots Hall.
"Everyone's been great since I've arrived," he said. "Everyone from the tea lady to the manager have been fantastic."
O'Donovan is now hoping to retain his place in the side for Southend's next match at home to Oldham.
