Southend United striker Francis Laurent will be out of action for up to six weeks after suffering a hairline fracture to his ankle.
The 22-year-old Frenchman, who has scored four goals since joining in August, was injured in training.
"It's very disappointing," manager Steve Tilson told the club website.
"You just can't believe it's happened. It's too early to say how long he'll be out but you're looking at anything from two to six weeks."
Laurent's injury means he will have to sit out Southend's League One game against Crewe and their FA Cup third-round replay against Chelsea.
