Mountain out of a molehill - Le Tissier
Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier says he put the admission about the attempted spread betting scam in his autobiography as a warning for others.
The Guernsey man bet on the timing of a first throw-in in 1995 and tried to kick the ball out deliberately. "I've put it in there more as a warning for other people saying 'don't be so stupid and get involved in that'," he told BBC Channel Island News.
"There's not much point doing a book if you're not going to tell the truth."
Le Tissier added: "It wasn't something I was particularly proud of but it was something that happened."
A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said they were not planning to take any action against the former England international forward.
She said: "We will only start an investigation once a complaint has been made.
"So far there does not appear to have been any complaint made in relation to this incident.
"Anyone is entitled to make a complaint and would be asked to make a statement to officers."
Le Tissier admitted to being surprised by the coverage his admission had received: "If ever a mountain was made out of molehill.
"I didn't think it was that big a deal - it wasn't like I was trying to throw a game or anything."
