Skacel is continuing talks over a move to Ipswich Town

Southampton manager Jan Poortvliet is planning for the new season without midfielder Rudi Skacel.

The Czech international is lining up a move to Saints' Championship rivals Ipswich Town.

Skacel has missed the first three weeks of pre-season build-up but returned to the club's training ground on Monday to work with the fitness coach.

Poortvliet told BBC Radio Solent: "There is no future for him here. He is in final negotiations with Ipswich."

The Dutchman added: "We have to let some of the players go. We want [to play] young players with some experienced players and when all of the squad are here the kids don't get a chance."

Ipswich have agreed an undisclosed fee to sign the 28-year-old Skacel who joined Southampton in July 2006 for �1.6m from Hearts.

Poortvliet takes his squad to Salisbury on Tuesday night for their latest pre-season friendly.
