Ian Sharps sees Shrewsbury Town squad strength as key

Shrewsbury captain Ian Sharps has identified the strength the club has in reserve as key to automatic promotion.

The Shrews are in the final automatic spot in League Two, a point behind Wycombe and one ahead of Bury.

"We have subs who can come on and make a real difference, help us score late goals," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"Lionel Ainsworth, Jermaine Grandison, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, Craig Disley, Kevin McIntyre could all walk into other League Two sides."

Ainsworth came off the bench on Saturday and scored twice as Town beat Macclesfield 4-1.

"You could feel (fans) getting anxious," Sharps added. "But we knew there was only one team going to score in the second half.

"I know Bury and Wycombe have a game in hand - but they've got to play eachother soon.

"The feeling here after three wins in a week (against Bradford, Rotherham and Macclesfield) is brilliant, and if we win our last six games we'll go up."

Sharps has been in fine form recently, despite some sleepless nights since the recent birth of his third child - a daughter named Poppy.

"Two wins out of two since she was born, so perhaps she's a lucky charm," he said.
