Tottenham extend keeper Dave Button's Shrewsbury loan

Shrewsbury on-loan keeper Dave Button has backed the club for promotion after parent club Tottenham Hotspur agreed to extend his loan for an extra month.

"It's achievable if we carry on playing like we have been," he said after wins at Bradford and Chesterfield saw Town up to fourth in League Two.

"I've still got a long way to go, but the experience is doing me good," Button, 20, told BBC Radio Shropshire.

Out of favour keeper Glyn Garner has left after settling up his contract.

Garner, who is injured, was signed from Leyton Orient in May 2007 by the former Shrewsbury manager Gary Peters.

He was Town's first-choice keeper but since Paul Simpson took over he has struggled to make the first team with his last appearance back in November 2008.

Simpson added: "Spurs have agreed to extend the [Button] loan for at least a month - and we'll see how it goes after that.

"I've been delighted with Dave Button. He's getting more and more confident with games. He's composed, and has a good presence about him."

Shrewsbury need extra cover with goalkeepers because while Chris Neal has regained full fitness Andreas Arestidou has a hernia problem and faces an operation.

Meanwhile, Simpson has decided not to extend loan deals for front men Jamie Devitt [Hull City] and Waide Fairhurst [Doncaster Rovers], who picked up an injury on Boxing Day.

"Waide's foot injury means he'll be out for three weeks anyway, while Jamie's early impact hasn't continued," Simpson added.

Striker Fairhurst and winger Devitt both joined Town in October.

The Doncaster man scored on his debut against Aldershot - the first of four goals in 10 starts.

Devitt then matched it with a goal the following week at Notts County on his debut, scoring again three games later in the 2-0 win over Rotherham.
