Kelvin Langmead has targeted five goals for Shrewsbury this season, to follow his first in the 3-1 win at Accrington.
"It was really frustrating not getting any last season," the central defender told BBC Radio Shropshire, "I know I should be getting more."
Shrews boss Paul Simpson has called for more goals from his non-strikers, and Langmead says the two he scored in pre-season boosted his confidence.
"As a centre-half you've got to look at getting four or five goals," he added.
Langmead was the man of the moment in Shrewsbury's win at Accrington after scoring and clearing an Accrington effort off the line that would have put the home side back in it.
"It was a good 15-minute period for us, and I was delighted to play my part at both ends," he said.
There was also an early question mark about who got the final header in for his goal, but Langmead has claimed it forthrightly. "I've looked at the video several times, and there's no doubt it was mine," he confirmed.
