Phillips played against Shrewsbury in the 2007 League Two play-off final
Goalkeeper Steve Phillips hopes moving on loan to Shrewsbury will reignite his career after being told he can leave Bristol Rovers.
"This is a chance for me to show Shrewsbury as well as other teams what I have to offer," the 31-year-old told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"With 14 years as a pro my experience is on the table. I'm still fit and agile, and I feel I can go past 35."
Phillips will be in the Shrewsbury squad to face Accrington on Saturday.
He has played almost 500 games for both Bristol clubs and said he was surprised to lose his place at Rovers.
"It all came out of the blue, and it's been a difficult time," he added.
"I would rather have been released before the start of the season, when other clubs haven't settled their sides.
"I don't really know what I've done wrong but that's football and you get on with it.
"I don't think necessarily I have a point to prove at Shrewsbury this month, but I know there's a future for me at the end of it somewhere if I do well."
The Shrews have signed Phillips on a four-week loan to cover a goalkeeping crisis at the Prostar Stadium.
First-choice keeper Chris Neal is out for four weeks with a groin injury and Glyn Garner has a shoulder problem.
