Herd reveals interest from clubs

Ben Herd
Herd played 143 league games for Shrewsbury over four years

Full-back Ben Herd has revealed he has already been contacted by clubs interested in signing him, just days after being released by Shrewsbury.

The 23-year-old, who joined in 2005, told BBC Radio Shropshire: "There's been a couple of bits of interest.

"A manager's rang me and I spoke to him, so there's been a bit of interest. As to whether anything will come of it, I don't know."

Herd was released by Shrewsbury Town after the play-off final defeat.

The defender was not included in the Shrews squad to face Gillingham in the final at Wembley and admitted he was not confident he would be offered a new contract by manager Paul Simpson.

"I was 80% ready for him to say, 'I'm not going to give you anything'. I thought I was playing some really good stuff, the team was doing well. It's sad it couldn't continue," Herd added.

He was signed by former Shrews boss Gary Peters in 2005 after being released by Watford.
