Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson was relieved to see their long run without an away league win end at Rotherham as they moved into the play-off places.
A Nick Chadwick effort and an Ian Sharps own goal saw Town win 2-1 - their first League Two win on the road since beating Exeter on 16 August.
"We've waited a long time for it, it's been a frustrating few weeks," Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"We need to keep working hard, hopefully results will keep coming."
"We had some good chances, but we scored at a good time, before the break. The way we played and the chances we created they shouldn't have been involved in the game, but luckily in the end we got the result," he added.
Town gave a surprise debut to striker Omer Riza, who came on a second-half substitute.
The former Arsenal trainee received clearance to play again after being banned by the Turkish Football Federation for walking out on Trabzonspor.
Simpson was delighted to have his services: "We heard on Thursday night that Omer had received a fax from Turkey [saying] that his ban had been lifted. It's a massive boost, he gives us a different option."
Town leapt above Chesterfield into seventh place with their victory, after the Spireites lost 1-0 against Gillingham at the Recreation Ground leaving Town two points ahead with two games left to play.
