Shrewsbury defender Neil Ashton has said manager Paul Simpson was right to criticise the players for their poor performance against Chester City.
Simpson branded the Shrews' display as "disgraceful" despite the 1-0 home win on Tuesday, which followed Saturday's 2-1 win over Chesterfield.
Ashton told BBC Radio Shropshire: "He expects better and we expect better.
"He was right to have a go and we've got to change that to more like the performance against Chesterfield."
Ashton added: "He's won as a player and a manager, a lot of the players in the squad have that winning mentality."
The 23-year-old is enjoying an extended run in the first team at the Prostar Stadium after turning down the opportunity to join Macclesfield Town.
"I feel as though I've taken that chance, now I've got to keep on working hard and keep my performances right to stay in the team," said Ashton.
