Simpson's side have gone 16 games without a win away from home
Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson was left questioning his side's ambitions after Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Macclesfield.
The result extended their losing streak away from home in the league to 16 games and left Simpson despairing over the performance.
"We keep going back to the same players and the same players who keep letting us down. I wonder how much they really care," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"We must be kidding ourselves to be thinking about promotion."
Shrewsbury now face Exeter on Tuesday night at the Prostar stadium, the last team they managed to beat on the road back in August after Paul Murray scored the only goal of the match.
But Simpson said his players are fine when they play in their comfort zone at home but their away form could cost them promotion.
"We're allowing people to mock us. I find it embarrassing, they're a group of players I've sent out, that have put in a performance like that."
