Simpson was disappointed with the manner of the goal his side conceded
Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson has held up League Two leaders Wycombe as a model for his own players after Saturday's 1-0 win at Oteley Road.
"Wycombe have set their levels, they're top of the league and a good side," he reflected after the home defeat.
"We've got to match those levels to make sure we stay involved in the promotion race."
Wycombe's lead at the top of League Two is now nine points, thanks to Matt Harrold's goal in the second half.
Wycombe suffered a humiliating 7-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy home defeat to Shrewsbury at Adams Park in October - but needed just one goal to exact revenge.
Their winning strike came shortly after the break when goalkeeper Luke Daniels failed to deal with Gary Holt's corner.
"It was a poor goal to give away, especially considering how strong we've been in the way we've defended in recent games," Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"We put them under a lot of pressure after the goal, but it wasn't to be."
