Paul Simpson wants video technology introduced into football

Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Simpson has urged the authorities to bring video technology into football.

"I can't understand why Sepp Blatter and Fifa are blocking it because it can't make things any worse," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"Referees have a very difficult job so let's stick cameras in as far down the footballing ladder as possible."

But Sean Dipple, Shropshire's top refereeing officer, disagreed and said: "The game would be too stop-start."

He added: "I know it happens in cricket and rugby, but football's different.

"When do you call for the video? Was it a penalty? A ball over the line? Offside?

"If you're going to do it for one thing, you've got to do it for everything - and how long would that make a game last?"

Simpson, though, revealed that there is growing support from within the professional game for camera technology to be used.

"At the last League Managers' Association meeting, everyone seemed to want it," he said.
