Paul Simpson has promised a surprise for former club Carlisle when they face his Shrewsbury side in the Carling Cup.
"It's a fantastic game for me and for our supporters, as Carlisle are a very good side," he told BBC Shropshire.
"I was delighted when the draw came out. It's been some time since I left, so I hope any ill feeling has passed and we can watch a great game."
Simpson has confirmed he will be fielding his strongest side at the Prostar Stadium on Tuesday evening.
"Cup runs are good for the team and good for the club," he said.
"You want to win every game you play in, and the fact that it's against my old club is neither here nor there - I just want to get through."
Confidence at Shrewsbury is high after Saturday's 4-0 opening-day win over Macclesfield.
"Expectations are high, but we've got to deal with that," said Simpson.
"Playing Macclesfield was only number one of 46 League games - and hopefully a number of cup ties too."
