Grant Holt scored the only goal of the game as Shrewsbury finally broke dogged Aldershot's resistance.

Holt struck with nine minutes remaining, glancing a header in off the far post from Ben Davies' cross.

The Shrews had already gone close in an entertaining game when Nikki Bull brilliantly tipped over Marc Tierney's long-range effort.

John Grant missed a good chance for the visitors 15 minutes from time when he side-footed wide of the post.
