Simpson could be set to further strengthen his squad
Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson is in talks to sign two more players before the new season - one on loan and the other a permanent acquisition.
"I'm hopeful I can get one or both in before the weekend," Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire.
The pair would bring Simpson's summer recruits to eight, to add to what is already strong competition for places.
"I'm pleased with the new signings, but I'm also pleased with the way the rest of the squad has responded," he added.
"Everyone has worked really hard, and while having perhaps 24 players vying for a first-team place is a headache, it's a nice headache to have."
Shrewsbury's final pre-season game is a tough one, at home to Premier League new boys Stoke on Saturday 2 August, and Simpson wants to have his final signings in place by then.
