We wanted the match on - Peters

Shrewsbury boss Gary Peters has scotched as "absolute nonsense" rumours that Town were behind Saturday's game at Morecambe being called off.

"Because we had a few players out, Morecambe fans were saying we wanted it off," Peters told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"But we had a strong side, with Steve Leslie and Chris Humphrey on the wings to try to stretch Morecambe.

"And I was looking forward to seeing James Constable and Guy Madjo together up front for the first time."

Dave Hibbert was suspended for the game, while captain Ben Davies and Colin Murdock were both ruled out through injury.

"The referee made the decision, not us," Peters added. "A small part of the pitch was icy, and the ref made his mind up when he fell over in his warm-up.

"But if Morecambe had put the covers on overnight, it would've definitely been on."

The game at Morecambe's now been rearranged for Tuesday, April 8.
